Choral Composition

Greetings California Choral Composers!

My name is David V. Montoya and I am very excited to sit in the newest seat on the California ACDA Board, Repertoire & Resources Chair for Choral Composition!

This new role is meant to help composers across the state to network and find opportunities to get their music “out there.”  In my activities, I intend to include an emphasis on self-publishing websites such as and  If you haven’t checked out these sites, please visit them – a new and exciting direction in music publishing.



By May 20th, we had 11 wonderful compositions submitted by composers around the state.  They were ranked by three ACDA members:  myself, Eliza Rubenstein of Orange Coast College, and Dr. William Wells Belan of Cal. State University, Los Angeles.  We are thrilled to announce that Nancy Reeves’ AGNUS DEI from her Requiem was selected as the winner.  Nancy will attend the ECCO Conference at the end of July on the first ever George Heussenstamm Scholarship where the entire conference will read her piece.
